Vacation Planning

Looking to plan out the perfect Maui itinerary? If you’re searching for where to go on your Maui vacation, we’ve got you covered. Whether you’re looking for a 7-day Maui itinerary, a 5-day trip, or a weekend itinerary for a romantic getaway, there are endless activities and places to explore on a trip to Maui.

Here are our top tips for things to do on your vacation to plan out an exciting Maui itinerary:

See A Gorgeous Maui Waterfall

Checking out one of Maui’s scenic waterfalls is a wonderful way to spend time on your Maui vacation. The island has a range of waterfalls, meaning you can fit one into any itinerary!

Want to head out on a daylong hike? Head out on Maui’s famous Road to Hana and explore a hike like Hanawai Falls. You can trek down to the base of the falls and go for a swim!

If you only have a few days here, you can save time and spot plenty of gorgeous waterfalls right from the comfort of your car! A scenic drive down Hana highway allows you to see stunning waterfalls like 3 Bears Maui. Take in all the beauty from the stopping point on the road, and then continue on your journey!

Spend the Day at the Beach

A classic activity in Maui is, of course, spending some time at the beach. There are many options when deciding where to spend the day. If you’re planning a 7-day Maui itinerary, you could check out several!

Staying in South Maui? South Maui Beaches are stunning—with plenty of opportunities for snorkeling and surfing. Polo Beach is one of the more secluded beaches (if you visit the south side), and the snorkeling there is excellent.

Oneuli is a black sand beach—one of the only two on Maui—which you won’t want to miss if you have the time! It isn’t the best swimming beach, but if you’re into snorkeling, we highly recommend it. A black sand beach is a must-see on a trip to Maui!

Explore Maui’s Natural Wonders

Beyond the stunning waterfalls, Maui offers several other incredible natural sights to see on your vacation. If you’re looking to take a digital detox, this is the place to be.

If you’ve never seen a blowhole in real life, the Nakalele Blowhole is definitely worth a stop. A blowhole is a hole in the ground that connects to an underground, partially submerged ocean cave. When the ocean rises or waves crash, water and air are dramatically forced out through the hole, creating an impressive jet. It's a fascinating sight to see!

If you’re setting out to make a 7-day itinerary, we highly recommend adding Molokini. This day trip excursion offers an exciting array of activities as well as scenic views. Just look at that crater! It’s one of the best places to snorkel on Maui, and that’s saying something.

Kick Back at a Maui Brewery

After a day spent relaxing at the beach, what could be better than kicking back and having a nice cold beer? You can do just that at one of Maui’s many breweries!

Craft beer may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think about Maui, but the island has some great selections. Maui Brewing Co. opened its doors in 2005 and has been a local favorite ever since. The brewery offers multiple tours on the weekends (perfect for a weekend itinerary!) at its Kihei Tasting Room Location.

If you’re not a beer person, Maui also has some great wineries and distilleries. One of our absolute favorites is Hali’imaile Distilling Company. Born out of a dream shared by brothers to create an authentic micro-distillery on Maui, they truly hit the mark. Stop in for aromatic gin, smooth whiskey, premium rum, or deliciously crisp vodka.

Dine at One of the Amazing Restaurants in Maui

One of the most important decisions you can make when creating your Maui itinerary is deciding where to eat! There are so many incredible dining options in Maui to choose from. If you’re traveling on a budget, check out some of our budget-friendly dining recommendations we wrote about in our blog a few months back!

Dining in Maui ranges greatly, whether you’re looking for Poke bowls or something to satisfy any palate, like the ever-popular Café O Lei. Kalei’s Lunchbox is another local, Ohana-owned favorite of ours. You can read all of our favorite Maui restaurant recommendations here!

Spend Some Time at One of Maui’s Annual Festivals

When planning out your Maui itinerary, it’s important to consider what time of year you want to visit. Lucky for you, the weather is gorgeous year-round here—but there are some other factors to consider!

Maui has some amazing annual festivals that you won’t want to miss. Movie lovers will want to check out the Maui Film Festival in late August, and foodies can get a true taste of Hawaii at the Hawaii Food & Wine Festival in October. You can even support local businesses at the Made in Maui County Festival in the fall! Springtime visitors should definitely consider some time at the historic East Maui Tarot Festival—it’s totally worth the visit!
